It feels good when you get a new pup into the house, but this also comes with new challenges. You would not like your new buddy pee on your carpet, right? Then you need to give it some training.
#1. Choose The Right Period To Start Potty Training
In a period of 4-6 months a puppy needs to have been fully housed trained. The best time to start training is when the puppy is 12-16 weeks old when the puppy can control its bladder. It is advisable to start early as it is easier and quicker than starting late. Small breeds are known for small bladders and hence, quick metabolism.

#3. Have A Definite Feeding Time

Take caution on the colour, consistency, content, and coating the 4C’s. Bulky, stinky, and loose poop indicates a change in diet. Diarrhoea is an indication of overfeeding.
#4. Select Specific Locations Outside
When outside, pick the specific place where you want the puppy to defecate. Using its scent will always remember that place as its bathroom. It is good to mention certain words when taking the puppy out to eliminate and also reward it with walks and playtime when it gets it right.
#5. Interrupt Accidents
If you catch your puppy peeing or pooping in the house, clap to interrupt and say “no” and lead the puppy outside immediately. The intention is to get the puppy’s attention and not scaring the puppy.
Repeating the same exact words to the puppy when you get it in the act, will help in making the puppy understand you don’t like it inside the house. However, never punish the puppy by making an accident as it takes time to learn.
#6. Clean Accidents Immediately
Make sure you clean up right away in case the puppy eliminates indoors. This will prevent the puppy from repeating the same by smelling ammonia in the urine. Wash your puppy with detergents which don’t contain ammonia.
During this training period, you need to be patient, calm, and consistent in order to achieve the best results. Various types of breed take different time span to learn, and therefore it is good to understand your pup breed well.
